Route to Aeolian Islands!

Between the sea and volcanoes. Sail between the cobalt blue sea and the red fire of volcanoes.

Day 1: ... all aboard for departure!

Our journey of discovery to the Aeolian Islands begins in the port of Baia Levante Marina on the island of Vulcano. Here, every Saturday from 18:00 in the evening we will be happy to wait to welcome you on board one of our boats. Once aboard, there will be a skipper meeting where we will explain all the rules and regulations that need to be met so that you enjoy your holiday to the maximum.
After the briefing we will be available to have dinner with you all, with the chance to discover the specialities of the local cuisine of the Aeolian Islands, while those who are feeling a bit weary can rest on the boat, preparing for the week ahead and getting used to staying on the boat.

On Sunday morning we will make arrangements to organize the galley, and you will be able to enjoy a pleasant walk through the narrow streets of Vulcano, and get to meet Maurizio, and buy the excellent tuna he has caught and packaged, famous all over Italy for its goodness and quality.

Day 2: Discovering Panarea

Already “old hands” after the walk through the little streets of Vulcano, and with all the food organized on board, we will be ready to set off.

We will set sail aiming the bow towards the island of Panarea, the most exclusive holiday destination of the Aeolian Islands. After sailing for about 10 miles, and after you have already begun to absorb the atmosphere of this holiday at sea, we will stop at Cala Zimmari, near Punta Milazzese. Here you can have your first swim of the holiday and enjoy the sea of the Aeolian Islands, with its clear water of a characteristic cobalt blue color, devoting yourself to activities such as swimming and snorkeling and forgetting all the stresses of daily life.
In the late afternoon we set sail to move to the vicinity of the Dattilo reef, facing the village.

Once we have moored you can stay on board if you wish, but we strongly advise that you go ashore and visit the quaint village of Panarea and enjoy its famous nightlife, after an aperitif at the Lounge Bar Raya, with its splendid sea view.
Panarea is the favorite destination of most of the crews, with its distinctively lively and chic atmosphere: the panorama features brilliantly colored rose bushes and bougainvilleas that stand out dramatically against the volcanic landscape. The charm of this contrast makes Panarea, with all its contradictions and peculiarities, the island that is the most popular and beloved of all the seven islands in the Aeolian archipelago.

Day 3: San Vincenzo and the "Sciara del Fuoco"

On Monday morning we set off for Basiluzzo, known as the “eighth Aeolian island” because of its size; we will circumnavigate the islet to be able to admire the amazing coastal morphology consisting of little grottos, high walls of layers of lava, and other bizarre rock formations that look like monuments from the way they rise from the sea.

En route to Stromboli we can admire the Iddu volcano, so precious to the islanders, but also so feared by them. Notable for its conical shape, it is the most active volcano in Europe: in fact, the earth trembles on this island … although for many it is difficult to part with characteristic black beach and the pretty village of San Vincenzo.

In the afternoon it is possible to visit the village or go on a guided tour to appreciate the picturesque scenery at close hand, taking in the mouth of the volcanic crater: once back at sea level, it will be fun to meet on the terrace of the Ingrid Bar for a drink together. From there we can also admire the unique and evocative view, with the dramatic slope of the volcano (illuminated by the little colored lights of those who are preparing to face the descent) and of Strombolicchio, the craggy rock, just under a mile north east of the island, that juts out tall to the sky with steep cliffs overlooking the sea, crowned by its characteristic lighthouse.

Finally you can dine on the boat, otherwise you can spend the evening on shore so as not to miss the sight of the “Sciara del Fuoco”, a steep and wide wall of volcanic sand that blankets the north east coast of the island, on to which spills lava, burning cinders and rock from the crater that run all the way down to the sea. This point can be reached on small boats, and afterwards we return to our boat that is anchored for the night.

Day 4: the island of Salina and the Bay of Pollara

baia-di-pollaraOn the fourth day we set off for the island of Salina, the largest island of the archipelago, with its extraordinary and incredible diversity of landscapes.
Salina is the most fertile of the Aeolian islands, and rich in water: they cultivate high quality grapes that are the source of “Malvasia delle Lipari”, a sweet wine, and capers that are exported all over the world.
Waiting to welcome us is the Bay of Pollara (famous for being the setting for the film “Il Postino” that starred Massimo Troisi), remarkable for its shape of an amphiteatre, and part of a submerged rocky crater that has been shaped by the natural elements.
At sunset, after a little less than half an hours sailing, we reach Santa Marina to drop anchor in the harbor and come ashore to visit the village that is colored by caper flowers and the reddish hues of a sun that never seems to set..

Day 5: en route to Filicudi

filicudiOn Wednesday morning we head for Filicudi, the penultimate island in the Aeolian archipelago, located along with the nearby Alicudi far west of the other islands.
Capo Graziano shows us the way to get there. There we can enjoy a swim in a sea that is surrounded by a splendid backdrop and luminous colors, and then later sail towards Pecorinia Mare, the only fishing village on the island.
There is only one way to get to Filicudi, the only other possible ways are along mule tracks that lead into the countryside, bordered by rocky cliffs, and descend directly into the sea.
At sunset we can go to Saloon, the famous Zio Nino club, and meeting point for all the crews, to enjoy an aperitif and admire the view of the sunset. Once the sun sets, you will experience the pervasive sensation of being immersed in the middle of the Mediterranean, taking in its colors and its aromas.

Giorno 6: la grotta del Bue Marino

buone-marinoOn Thursday morning, after a hearty breakfast and a delicious coffee we set off towards the western part of Filicudi to see the Canna, a huge rocky cliff that rises about 70m above the water, as if it was balanced on the seabed.
After a swim and the chance to once again experience the incredibly beautiful backdrop of the island, we will go in the dinghy to visit the grotto of Bue Marino, notable for its unique array of stunning shades of color, ending our daily itinerary by going through the rocky arch of Perciato.
After lunch, we set sail and make for the island of Lipari, the last island of the archipelago and the final stage of our journey.

Day 7: the last stage at the island of Vulcano

lipari-4On Friday we wake up in Lipari, after an evening of “nightlife” typical of this fishing village: Lipari is in fact the largest town and provides tourist facilities for all the Aeolian islands.
Upon awakening you will have the chance to sample the delights of Subba, the pasticceria on the Corso that was founded in 1930, and where you can taste cannoli, granite, cassata cakes and other local specialities. After enjoying these delicacies you will be all ready to leave for Vulcano, the last island on the archipelago, as soon as we have visited the pumice quarries where the colors of the sea are reminiscent of the Caribbean.
We will spend the day between one swim and another, to then conclude with our last evening in the Aeolian Islands.
